Three Years on Solar, Zero Months of Fees

• The Clip Advantage: For most of the house, the included clips make life easy. Instead of drilling into every corner, you’re just tightening bolts to get a secure grip.
• The Heavy Lifting: As you found out, the real time-sink is moving the ladder, climbing up, and ensuring those bolts are tight so your 360° Pan & Tilt doesn’t wobble.

Good news: it works without a hub

You can absolutely run the S340 standalone. Out of the box it’s built to skip the hub, the cloud and the fees entirely:

• Built-in storage: 8GB of on-camera eMMC storage saves recordings directly to the device  no external hub required.
• AI on board: even without a HomeBase, the camera’s AI distinguishes people, vehicles and pets and notifies you by preference.
• Full hardware: you still get the complete 3K dual-camera system, 8x zoom and 360° pan & tilt.

Adding the HomeBase later is a pure upgrade  it doesn’t unlock the basics, it expands them (16TB of storage and the enhanced BionicMind face recognition).

Connectivity & the feed: the honest truth

It wasn’t all sunshine at first. My backyard camera hit connectivity issues because it sat too far from the router. The fix from my own setup: I moved the router toward the center of the house and added a Nighthawk WiFi extender, which steadied the connection for good.

Keep in mind there’s a slight stream delay  in my testing the app feed runs about a 3-second lag, so it’s near-live, not truly instant. 3 years of daily use
